14Aug Critics of Pope dividing the Church

There is an interesting, if sad, article in americamagazine.org on the subject of the campaign against Pope Francis and against his attempt to renew and reform the church in the light of the teachings of Vatican II. While no nation is without its faults the naked divisions, polarisation and dysfunction of society in the  U.S.A. are also very evident in the life of the Catholic church in the U.S.A.

In many ways the article supports recent arguments put forward by Brendan Hoban on this site.

As I see it the problem is that the ultra Conservatives see the unity of the church as doctrinal immobility, instead of reaching out to call others into a communion of faith and love.
