Tina Beattie

Tina Beattie is a widely published academic and popular writer on issues relating to theology, gender, culture and women’s rights. She has been described as ‘a – or perhaps the – leading feminist theologian of her generation’.

She spent much of her early life in Africa – Zambia, Kenya and Zimbabwe – and moved to Bristol in 1988 with her husband Dave and four small children. In July 2020 Tina left her post as Professor of Catholic Studies at the University of Roehampton in London in order to dedicate her time to writing and independent research. She continues in her role as Director of Catherine of Siena College, an online college offering courses in gender, theology and social justice based at Roehampton.

In addition to her published academic writings, Tina writes for The Tablet and has contributed to news and current affairs magazines including The Guardian, LA Times, Commonweal, The Church Times and The Conversation. She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4, including Thought for the Day, and has taken part in a number of international radio and television programmes for Irish Radio RTÉ, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation CBC, ABC  Radio Australia, Al Jazeera and Sky.
