08Nov ACP AGM WILL BE ZOOM ONLY EVENT THIS WED – 10 Nov.

The ACP AGM, scheduled for Wednesday 10 November in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, as an ‘in-person’ event has been cancelled and will be held by Zoom only.

The decision was taken at a meeting by the ACP Leadership team because of the increasing number of Covid cases throughout the country.

ACP Leadership is conscious that many of our members fall into the vulnerable category and does not wish to place anyone at risk.

The ACP is also aware of a number of priests who currently have Covid and wish them a speedy recovery.

The AGM will be held as a Zoom event only, Wed 10 Nov at 2.00pm. Details below:

NEWSFLASH!!! ACP AGM WILL BE ZOOM ONLY EVENT…

The leadership team of the ACP is to be applauded for this very sensible and wise decision.

Joe, I wouldn’t fret too much about all of this as science is going to beat this and very soon too. Of that I have no doubt. The development of safe and effective vaccines in such a short time has bordered on the miraculous. And, what an amazing affect that has had on us all.

Even today we learn of a new antiviral pill, the first of it’s kind in the treatment of Covid 19 and now approved for use in the UK.The pill is called Molnupivravir which acts differently to the vaccines as it interferes, as I understand it, with an enzyme involved in the replication of the virus. It will greatly reduce the risk of serious illness and death in those with the infection who have certain risk factors such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

We have also learned today that the human papillomavirus( HPV)vaccine is
reducing cervical cancer in women by nearly 90%, the first real-world data has shown. Cancer Research UK described the findings as “historic” and said it showed that the vaccine is saving lives.

I remember a few years ago it was mentioned on this site that some unenlightened Irish bishops –perhaps it was only one –were quite disgracefully but very predictably condemning the fact that the HPV vaccine was being made available to young Irish girls. When will they ever learn? !!
